Seneca High School Welcomes New Band Director

               Bobcat Nation would like to welcome Tyler Scarabino as our Director of Bobcat Bands.  Mr. Scarabino likes to describe himself as an active teacher, arranger, and visual designer.  Mr. Scarabino holds a Bachelor of Arts in Music Education from Limestone College in Gaffney, SC and is currently pursuing his Masters in Music Education from the University of Florida. Mr. Scarabino comes to us as serving as Director of Bands at Saluda High School and most recently held the titles of Director of Music at Clifdale Elementary as well as Percussion Coordinator at Boiling Springs High School. Throughout his career, Mr. Scarabino’s wind and percussion ensembles have received numerous Superior and Excellent ratings at the 2A, 4A, & 5A SCBDA Marching contests as well as in Grade II, IV, & V at Concert Performance Assessment.

In 2018, Mr. Scarabino helped lead the Saints Percussion to become a WGI World Championship Finalist in the Percussion Independent A Class. In addition, Mr. Scarabino has led his groups to finals at many Bands of America events including Class Champions in 2016. In 2018, Tyler helped charter the D2 Indoor Marching Unit that finished 2nd Place in SCBDA Indoor State Championships and prior to these experiences, Mr. Scarabino was the Percussion Coordinator at Laurens District 55 High School where his indoor percussion unit won the 2014 SCBDA AA Indoor State Championship. As a performer, Mr. Scarabino has marched at the DCI, WGI, & BOA levels with numerous ensembles.

Mr. Scarabino’s wife, Makayla Scarabino, will also be joining us as an elementary school teacher at Blue Ridge Elementary School.  Mrs. Scarabino will serve as the Colorguard and Winterguard director for Bobcat Bands.  Mrs. Scarabino holds a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from The University of South Carolina Upstate in Spartanburg, SC where she served as a South Carolina CERRA Teaching Fellow. Makayla comes to us from Saluda Elementary School and most recently held the titles of Director of Guard at Saluda High School and Boiling Springs High School. She previously was an assistant at James F. Byrnes High School and Spring Valley High School. Mrs. Scarabino currently holds the title of Visual Caption Head at Saints Percussion.

Mrs. Scarabino brings a wealth of colorguard experience to Seneca as a past member of Byrnes High School Colorguard and Winterguard programs (2009-2013) and Etude Winterguard (2014-2018). As a performer with Etude Winterguard, in 2014 the ensemble was awarded WGI Independent Open Fan Favorite, in 2015 the ensemble was awarded the WGI Independent Open Silver Medal and WGI Independent Open Fan Favorite, and in 2018 finished tenth overall as a WGI Independent World Class Finalist.

Both Mr. & Mrs. Scarabino are excited to be a part of the Seneca High School family as we are excited to have them with us!
